The peoples Council
The Bubi Rural District Council (RDC) is a local government authority located in the Bubi District in Matabeleland North Province in the, western side of Zimbabwe. Bubi RDC is responsible for the administration and development of the rural areas within its jurisdiction. Developments include, but are not
limited to infrastructure improvements, community service provision, and economic support initiatives. Recent collaborations with foreign investors have further enhanced Bubi RDC’s capacity to serve local population effectively. Bubi Rural District Council plays a crucial role in managing local resources while fostering cultural heritage through its rich historical background. The council’s efforts are directed towards enhancing economic activities through mining and agriculture while ensuring effective governance at the local level and efficient service delivery for all inhabitants.
Bubi RDC operates through a council system comprising elected representatives from various wards within the district. The council is tasked with making decisions on local policies, budget allocations, and development projects aimed at improving the living standards of residents.
Below is a detailed overview ofthe Bubi District:
The district covers an area of 600.35square kilometers and boarders with Nkayi to the north, Lupane to the northwest, Umguza to the South and South West, Insiza to the South-East as well as Gweru and Kwekwe districts on the East. Bubi Rural District is located on the latitude of 19.52508 and longitude of
28.67998. The district is divided into twenty- three (23) administrative wards and these are then divided into 155 villages. Of the twenty-three (23) wards, six (6) are communal and six (6) are old resettlement areas. The rest are new resettlements, comprising of A1, A2 and small- and large-scale commercial
farms. The district falls under one chief who is Senator Chief Mtshane Khumalo, one (1) headman and forty-eight (48) village heads.
The district service centre for the district is in Ward 8 which is about 65 km from Bulawayo. Most government offices and the main rural local authority offices are in Ward 11. The other rural service centres are Siganda and Kenilworth.Bubi district is endowed with two (2) minerals which are limestone and Gold,
with gold being the major available mineral deposit spread throughout the district. There are four (4) large scale mines in Bubi, namely Isabella, Casymine, Queens and Bubi mine and the rest are small scale mines. The district lies in agro-ecological Region (IV) which is characterised by low erratic rainfalls and high temperatures. The land is suitable for tourism, cattle ranching and wildlife activities such as campfire programs
